Stoma Revision |
||
Stoma revisionThe thing about stoma revision is that one should not need it. Basically, if a stoma revision is performed on a patient, then the original stoma surgery has not went all that well. Now, there are several causes that can explain the botching of the initial surgical procedure. For one, the patient could have been too sick for the surgeon to actually see something inside their abdomen. If the colon is too swollen, the physician can consider that the actual hole that he or she needs to cut into the patient's abdomen is way larger than it actually has to be. Thus, after a while, when the colon has reached its normal size, a stoma revision is necessary for the patient to feel comfortable. If the stoma revision is not done, the sufferer can end up with stoma excoriation, which is not a good thing. The other reason that might make a stoma revision necessary is something that no one wants to think about, but what happens more often then one could believe: the surgeon has made a mistake. Unfortunately, the cases when this can be proven are rare, due to the uniqueness of the surgery. In general, the patient must support both the cost of the initial surgery and the cost of the stoma revision. Keep in mind that none of them come in cheap. |
